The veil
Poem and photo September 2018, photo taken by my son Ryan at Pompeii.
Now the veil has lifted
The mind can see
Frailties becoming clearer
Perfection not what seemed to be
Though eyes risen to the sound
Of the heart drumming
You left your promise to be with me
Too many things colliding and inescapable
Maybe drowning is better
Than coming out
A different kind of hurt then
And no way of understanding
Going back an impossibility
So the old way surrounds
Survives any protestation
While in its wake the blood of love lies
Trampled in the sand
